Director's message
Vivien Esslemont, Director British Council

Welcome to the British Council Mozambique website! We want you to find everything you need here about our programmes in Education, Society and Arts as well as information about improving your English skills, studying in the UK and taking UK qualifications.

I joined the British Council Mozambique team in 2001. I am proud to work for an organisation which has been flourishing for 80 years, bringing the people of Mozambique and the UK, and our institutions, closer together. We have been in Mozambique since 1989 and have been able to grow and nurture new opportunities for Mozambique and the UK and to build sustainable relationships based on trust and mutual respect.

We work with teachers, schools, universities, the business community, development agencies and other partners, as well as directly with young people in Mozambique. Last year, our programmes and activities reached more than 650,000 Mozambicans.

In everything we do, we aim to improve opportunities for young people in Mozambique by helping them to access education and skills, learn English, take a qualification with us, express themselves creatively or to learn how they can better serve their own communities.

Our mission is to develop strong and vibrant relationships that provide opportunities for people in both countries, and to work with many more people in Mozambique and the UK in support of our shared aspiration for a stable and prosperous future.

Our commitment to inclusivity and diversity is reflected across our programmes and we know this is appreciated by our contacts and partners, which we hope include you!

I encourage you to follow the British Council on our Facebook page and to give us your feedback on how we can make things even better. I hope some of you will choose to stay in touch with us for many years to come.
